I've been seeing dead people again...

...well okay, not ACTUAL dead people, just their houses and belongings. Estate sales are my newest interest addiction...I mean can you actually be addicted to something like this? I am going to go with, yes...yes you definitely can!

Yesterday I went to one, by myself. Haven't done that before...usually my oldest daughter goes with me, but they are no place for small kids since they are usually very congested with vultures"eager" people. I had to laugh at one older lady (and now that I am fast approaching that ugly "senior" status, I mean quite a bit older than me) who thought it was just "a shame" (meaning the person who died, I guess) yet her arms were full of treasures. I guess she didn't feel TOO bad, lol!

Anyhoo, I bought a few things, but this is my most prized possession of the day:

Isn't she cute?  A real vintage gumball machine...well, it could be if you ignored the "Made in Taiwan" imprint on the back!  So maybe it is not actually vintage, but it is good, sturdy cast iron.  My daughter tells me that Target sells a tiny, tabletop gumball machine for $16.  Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner, cuz' I only paid $18 for mine...and since they didn't take the money out of it, it was actually only about $17!

I will admit, royal blue is not my first choice as far as color goes, but it is in perfect condition (I thought I was going to HAVE to paint at least the base, but after a good cleaning, it is perf as is.

I would love to have it bright red...what do you think, should I paint it or leave it as is?

I am finishing up a couple of Mother's Day gift boxes today...I will post pics when they are complete!  Till then, have a great weekend and Happy Baking!

There's a skinny girl who lives inside of me that's screaming to get out...I can usually shut her up with cookies!

  2. Funny thing.... I have a red one not on a stand and when I got it my daughter wanted to paint it blue. I kept putting it off as I thought it should stay red.

I understand that blue would have went better in her room but red to me was a much more classic color for a gumball machine.

  3. OH MY GOSH!!! This is AWESOME!! I'm so jealous that you have one of these - it seriously is delicious!! I think you should leave it AS IS . . . it's more fun in blue since all gumball machines are red. This is a total score - oh, and I about peed myself laughing at your references to dead people. LOL The cookies arrived safe and sound - we got home on Tuesday night. I'll let you know how they go over at the party today - but no doubt they'll be a huge hit!! Miss you mucho!

  4. I actually like the blue. Everyone else has red, you can be unique with the blue! Have you seen the gumball machine made into a fish tank? Unique and cute, but with two grandbabies you should probably save it for gumballs :D
