This girl has curves!

Just let me start by saying that not only was this one of my easiest projects, it is also one of my favorite "afters" of all time.  I can't say enough good things about Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (nothing in for me, just sayin').  And if you are not familiar with it and you plan to redo some furniture, you will definitely want to check this out.  I will also say that it is somewhat pricey at about $40 a quart, but typically a quart goes a long way!  Because I was doing Pure White over a darker stain...it did take me a few more coats that normal.  But this stuff goes on like buttah!  And don't forget the BEST part...NO prep!  All you really have to do is make sure your surface is CLEAN, I use TSP.

I will also tell you that there are many "recipes" for chalk paint floating around the www, and while nobody gets more gratification out of saving a buck than me, I would recommend going with the real deal...especially on a piece of furniture that you really want to turn out perfect.

So, in case you forgot the story, I found this dresser at an Estate Sale.  I was not prepared and therefore did not have my hubby's truck to haul this thing home.  No problem, I could pick it up the next day but there was no way I was leaving without those drawers.  The top was down in my car, so I loaded them up...all nine of them!  Hence this picture:

Sadly, I never even took a picture of the "before" on the dresser itself, but I am sure you have seen a million of them around blogland!  I removed all the hardware and cleaned the drawers and because I am anything but a patient person, I immediately started painting.  I wanted to keep the original hardware, but I didn't really care for the finish as it was.

After a good cleaning, I used some Valspar "Nautical" latex paint and dry brushed it on the hardware.  I used that color because it is the paint I used on some lamps that are in the same room that the dresser is going in (those will be shown with another "reveal").  It actually gave them a "patina" look.

Anyhoo, this is how she looks now.  I couldn't even wait to dress her up with some new little chatchky's that I bought, so she looks a little naked.

So, whatch'a think?

PLEASE ignore the ugly carpet...it is going away soon, but I have to say, it was nice painting this piece in a nice cool room and not have to worry about getting paint on the floor.  (Our temps were up in the low 100's last week.)

I think this guest room is really coming together...so far I am on track for having every piece of furniture redone as opposed to brand new.  Stay tuned...there may even be a few surprises in store!

  2. I think your new dresser is a beaut! I have used ASCP, and I'm not a huge fan like you are... I think it's the colors I chose. I used some homemade red yesterday, and I loved it. I am SO cheap!
Anyway, you did a fabulous job, love the hardware. It's such a nice size, lots and lots of room you have there!
I'm anxious to see it in the room!

hundreds? oh my! We've been sooo cool. I've been tempted to turn the furnace on, but have resisted!

  8. Dude! This is amazingly gorgeous! I love the transformation, although the original look (at least from the drawers that you showed) was really beautiful, too. But I have to say I much prefer the new look. Very cool! That hardware is awesome!! Good job, chica!!
