(Just) One of my little "thrifty" obsessions!

As crazy as it seems, I sort of have a routine when I am working my way through a thrift store.  Rather than to bore you with it all, I will tell you that I never MISS the game aisle.  Why, you ask?  Here, I will just show you!

While I love playing the game...it has nothing to do with why I am obsessed with Scrabble.  The little tiles you find in the box, are a gold mine!  (Speaking of which, if you are lucky enough to find a Scrabble game at the thrift store and they are taped shut, you might want to ask them to see inside...yes, a not so bright person, might just think they have a plethora of tiles in the box, only to get home to find out, that all that rattling around was everything BUT the tiles...just sayin'!).

Moving on!  I even found this brand new one on discount day:

Back in the day, this would have been the price it sold for in the store...now they are about $16!

You can find the tiles for sale all over the www...in fact, did you know that Ebay currently has 9,802 listings for them right now?!  ETSY has 250 PAGES of tile related listings!  Crazy...but I don't buy them to sell...I buy them to create something fun!  There are tons of cute ideas using Scrabble tiles...coasters, wall decor, jewelery, picture frames....and the list goes on!

I am not going to lie, I am sort of very stingy with my tiles, just ask Melissa, she will tell you.  So after telling you all this, you probably think I have created all sorts of fun things, right?  I have not done one darn thing with them...till yesterday!  I guess I have been saving them for the "perfect" project and I am not saying that what I came up with is perfect, but it is a start!

While meandering through some of my favorite "decorating" blogs, I came across this post on Simple Details...she had lots of fun projects using Scrabble tiles!  I sort of took her idea and ran with it...right into my new guestroom.  This is what I came up with:

Whatcha' think, kinda cute, huh?  What better way to welcome a guest?!  I purposely did not glue the tiles down so that if a guest got the urge to leave a "goodbye" message, they could!  Of course my grandkids have already asked if they could "make some words"!  Sure...but not till after my weekend guest leaves!

Still more to show you from this room...which even includes my craziest "re-do" to date!

Till then...have a SAFE and Happy Memorial weekend!

There's a skinny girl who lives inside of me that's screaming to get out...I can usually shut her up with cookies! Photobucket

  1. I absolutely LOVE it!!!

I am not a thrift shopper, it's just so dirty in my Goodwill that I get creeped out. But, I love this idea so much that I am going to make a stop and see what they've got.

  3. Love it. I made Scrabble tile Christmas ornaments for the people I play Words with Friends with that look like these: http://fullofgreatideas.blogspot.com/2011/11/got-scrabble-scrabble-tile-ornament.html except they had their WWF name. They were a huge hit.
