Long time coming

By the time you read this, I will have hopefully won a bunch of money! My hubby and I are celebrating his birthday (actually Nov.7) in Las Vegas. Since turning 50, it has become our birthday gift to each other...I mean seriously, what do you buy a person that you have been married to for 36 years, that he/she doesn't just go buy themselves. So here we are! So, do you remember months ago when I purchased a dining room set to refinish? NO? Well let me refresh your memory. This is what it originally looked like:

And the cute little buffet:

And of course the chairs:

Now, if you were paying attention last week when I showed you the centerpiece box that I built, you may (or may not) have noticed the table it was sitting on.

In all honesty, this project did not come out as planned.  I wanted to sand and restain the top, and paint the rest.  Which I did, which came out to be a total disaster.  Okay, I am resilient, after a few unshed tears and a lot of anxiety, I decided to go with plan B and paint the whole damn thing.

Anyhoo, this is what it looks like today:

And the little buffet:

And a closeup of the chairs:

Whatcha' think?  This style is completely different than anything that I have ever had in my home, but I think it is sort of fun to go outside your comfort zone every once in a while!  I am a little sad that it did not turn out as I had planned, but for now, I can live with it!  Who knows...I could decide to sell it on Craigslist tomorrow!  That's kind of the way that I roll!

One more peek:

Till next time...

  2. It is beautiful! The shape of each piece shows up so nice. The white paint gives your project character. I hope you find that you are happy with it because it is oh so pretty now and it was not before you painted it.

  8. Love it! It looks just like the husband's grandmother's set which I would have bought in a heartbeat. However, she already sold it before I knew she was selling her stuff to go to a retirement home! Boo.
