Nothing says summer...

...quite like watermelon!  At least not for me!  And now that summer is just around the corner (our summer actually started two months ago, but whatever!) I plan to have some in my fridge all the time!

When I lived in the northwest, good watermelons were pretty much a given...in Arizona, not so much!  I am FOREVER on a quest for a good, sweet, watermelon but it is definitely a "hit or miss" mission!  Thankfully, they are pretty cheap, so it is not like I waste a lot of money when I get one that is not so great!

Factoid...I LOVE salt on my watermelon!  Hey, don't knock it till you have tried it!  (Shhhh,...don't tell anyone, but I put it on my cantaloupe too!)  This is something I picked up from my dad many years ago!  I just love that "sweet and salty" thing...give it a try next time, you just might love it as much as I do!

Where am I going with all this, you ask?  Well, cookies of course!  The other day I had leftover black icing, so I printed up a watermelon "seed" template and made some Royal Icing Transfers.  I was dying to put them to use, so I whipped up a few cookies:

Whatcha' think?  Make your mouth water?  No worries, no salt was added in the making of these cookies, but now that I think about it...a little white sanding sugar thrown on top would have been sort of fun!

I have been battling the horrid temperatures in my garage to work on my tool box...I may have a little "teaser" for you very soon!  Till then...

Happy Baking!

  4. Love the watermelon cookies, they are perfect.

Looking forward to seeing the toolbox. If it the size I think it is I would use it to store table clothes, cloth napkins and placemats.

I live near Lake Michigan and we are having our first warm temps today. Last year we roasted so I have been enjoying the cool temps.

  7. I had no idea people ate watermelon or cantaloupe WITHOUT salt! I'm not sure what you call cheap, but our watermelons here in Florida run between $8 to $10 for the small ones and rarely do we get a REALLY good one. I think I will stick to watermelon cookies! They look yummy.
