Which brings me to today's post. Remember the little headboard that I showed you last week that I picked up at an estate sale:
This thing truly was an antique but for $10, I could not pass it up. I have to figure out what to do with the long pieces you see...I think it used to be the footboard, now it is just pieces!
Anyhoo, speaking of Melissa...she does not have a fireplace in her house, which causes somewhat of a dilemma when trying to hang stockings at Christmas. She usually just hangs her stockings on the wall...not all that exciting, right? Well, Mom decided to rectify that problem, even if ever so slightly!
I purchased a Behr sample paint from Home Depot called "California Poppy". I went to Hob Lob and picked up these little hooks for $2.50 each (love that their hardware is always 50% off):
This is what I came up with:
The next best thing to a fireplace for hanging stockings, don't ya think? As projects go, this was another super simple one. The hardest part was getting a good coverage with the red paint. I should have taken the time to prime with a gray paint...would have gone much faster!
Another piece of trash turned to treasure? I think so!
On another note, I have been making centerpiece "boxes" like a mad woman. The Holiday Boutique is this Saturday (if you are local, stop by Kinderbugs Preschool to see all the goodies...open (9am-1pm)! Remember my fall centerpiece? Well, rather than to take it apart, I decided to keep it as a sample for the boutique. Yesterday I threw together a medium size Christmas one, but it looks pretty good on my table so it may be coming back home with me!
Whatcha' think? I used the new Minwax Gray Stain on this one...I really like the weathered look.
These boxes are super cheap to fill. I literally used Michaels cheapest green garland (about $2) for the bulk (and I have enough left to do a small box). I then added 1/2 price floral picks (.50) and ribbon to fill in the holes. The votive cups were the most expensive thing, but even those were purchased on sale for about $2 each. Total cost to fill...about $12-$13...not too bad for a centerpiece!
Wish me luck at the sale...I may be giving centerpieces to everyone this year if they don't sell! BTW, I am selling the boxes empty at the sale!
Till next time!

oh I love the stocking holder, so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the stocking hanger! It is adorable. I don't think you will need any luck selling your boxes - they are so pretty -I think they will sell just fine. Thanks for sharing the box "stuffing" ideas. My hubby just made me 3 a few weeks ago and I have 2 decorated but not for Christmas. I've been trying to come up with something for the other one. Now I am thinking Christmas! Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteI love the bed (stocking holder) ohh, how cute! I may have to do that next year. :)
ReplyDeletegood luck at the boutique. I took my caddies to another sale and didn't sell a one. How sad is that. People around here do NOT appreciate real beauty.
love the stuff you do Terri!
