I swore that this year when I took down Christmas decorations (and yes, it is already done!) that I was going to change things up a bit. Which brings me to my "nightmare" issue. This is what I speak about:
Not sure what you call them, but here in AZ, we call them "niches". I will say, that when we moved here 11 years ago, I was quite enamored...that lasted about a nano second! Not only do I have TWO niches (one of almost equal size in my Master Bedroom), but I have two GIGANTIC niches! See that upper middle one...yep, pretty sure you could have a picnic up there! Ignore the bottom ones...they are child's play compared to the uppers!
If I dug around a bit, I could probably find a picture of the "before", but since I am kind of lazy, we are going to skip it! It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out my dilemma...these are BIG freakin' holes and therefore I need BIG accessories to fill them! Trust me when I say...if you put something in there that is too small, it is totally dwarfed!
I am the first to admit that my weakest talent is definitely decorating...seriously! I believe, you either have it, or you don't...pure and simple! And I definitely don't!
Right now, all the things that I took out of the niche before Christmas decorating is stacked in my back guest bathroom...and since I know you are dying to know why, I will tell you! It, as well as the guest bedroom that is attached to it, is waiting for a facelift as well! Different story...different day!
There are a few things that I am willing to put back into the niche that I took out...but most things, gotta go! Needless to say, this could be empty for a long time!
I am going to take this picture to my local "Rod Works" in hopes that one of their designers can give me some ideas! They have such cool things there...love that store!
Oh, and as if that isn't enough on my plate, I am also in search of a new clock to go above my fireplace. I am in "design overload" right now...I think my head is going to explode!
Let me know if you have any ideas...I am open to any and all suggestions!
There's a skinny girl who lives inside of me that's screaming to get out...I can usually shut her up with cookies!
I am thinking a new embroidery machine would look perfect in the center and you could fill all the others with embroidery threads, bolts of stabilizers, etc *LOL*
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
In the largest niche, you could use the back one third to hide your skeletons. Middle third stand up a painting that takes up much of the space and hides the skeletons. Front third put an objet d'art or a vase off to one side.
ReplyDeleteOr...have a picnic! LOL
A place to store your vacuum cleaner? ;) LOL Or a really large wide Cactus? Though I agree with the post that said to somehow half the depth, but use the space. Heck you could put your Christmas decor back, push it back and put a faux front in front of it! It is the depth that is really throwing the niches IMO. Can't wait to see what you come up with
ReplyDeleteI'm clueless--you know how decor challenged I am! I've vowed to do something with my kitchen wall this year. I planned to blog it and ask for ideas just like you did!
ReplyDeletegood luck Terri!

I have three words for you . . . houzz.com (that's three words, right?! LOL) Do a search for living room niches and you'll get a TON of ideas as to how to decorate them!! Lunch this week? I'm open Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Let me know? Happy New Year!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy! I think you need custom fish tanks in there, that would be cute, but really hard to clean.
