...well sort of, anyway.
Remember my little bargain headboard that I picked up at Goodwill:
Remember what I paid for it?
I do have to confess that when it came time to refinish it, I did find a minor flaw in the piece. I didn't think to take a picture but it was easily "fixed" by rebuilding a small corner using wood putty...trust me, you would never even notice it now!
Oh, and by "safe", I mean that I painted it white. I know, you are thinking bor-ring! But au contraire, my friends...I did not leave it just plain white...I gave it a little shabby style. How do you like it now:
First thing I did was add the middle wood ornament that I picked up at Lowe's for $3. I then gave it a couple of coats of Annie Sloan "Pure White" that I already had. Next, I did a little sanding, and even though I loved it, I decided to kick it up a notch and give her a little more flair. I purchased this vintage hotel image from an ETSY store called Graphique...they have some AMAZING images and they are only $1 each! For a free source (and also amazing), I recommend The Graphics Fairy). Using the "burnishing" technique, I applied it to the headboard. I did not created this technique, but I love how it works...if you haven't seen the directions before, let me know and I will hunt you down the tutorial!
I finished it off with a good coat of wax and VOILA! I could totally see this in a girl's room or even a guestroom....makes me wish I had one more guestroom to re-do!
So, whatcha' think?! Love to hear your thoughts!!

Sometimes everyday life...
...gets in the way!
I know that I have sort of dropped the ball on my blogging lately, but things have been somewhat hectic around here. Not unlike your summer too, I am sure.
I think I mentioned recently that my youngest daughter, Kelli, recently purchased her first house. Quite an accomplishment for a single girl if you ask me! We could not be prouder! It is a super cute, 1300 sq. foot (?...total brain fart, but I think that is what it is) ranch (also know as "rambler" to some) built in the 1970's...yep, it is sort of a fixer upper. Actually the lady was meticulous with the house, but in all the years that she liver there (thirty something), she never touched the kitchen. Can you imagine?
It had the beautiful "harvest gold" appliances, for those that are old enough to remember those babies and you wouldn't believe the paneling that hung on the wall.
See...I told you that you wouldn't believe it!
They have torn out a big wall to achieve an open concept...wow, what a huge difference that made! Two bedrooms have been painted, including her master. Melissa created a very cool gray and white stripe wall, while Kelli and I upholstered a new headboard! Last night we hung new blinds...a job that should have taken 1/2 hour, but took 2 hours instead. What can I say...that is the way we Dodd's roll!
So, you get the idea! Long story short, we have been spending a lot of our time helping her get it ready for move-in day! My hubby, bless his heart, has become quite the "handyman/carpenter" and trust me when I say, those are not words you will see in the same sentenceoften ever! Around my house, we typically pay people to do this stuff!
We have been trying to talk Kelli into starting a blog to chronicle her journey...if that happens, I will let you know...should make for a good read!
I did have time to do some junkin' yesterday! She wants me to "repurpose" a dresser into a TV stand so I started out with the intention of hitting the Goodwill (okay, you are going to make me say it right?...it was Senior day so I would get %25 off). Anyhoo, something was telling me that I should hit the Salvation Army first. Low and behold the entire store was 50% off...woohoo, I love when that happens! I was positively giddy!
As I walked around I noticed a lot of pieces already had "sold" signs...bummer. All the good stuff was gone! Then it happened...the clouds parted and the angels started singing! I spotted this bad boy:
I could not believe my luck! This is a Thomasville dresser and mirror...price$129.95 $64.98! Score baby! We were not looking for a mirror, but since it came with, who's complaining. Check out the size of this thing.
I swear, it must almost hit the ceiling when it is on the dresser! I think we will remove the hardware, refinish it and use it leaning against the wall in a bedroom (and by "we", I mean me). Don't ya just love it when things come together!
No cookie orders on the books, so I don't know when I will have those to share again! However, I see that I am only 1 follower away from 400, so when that happens, I may have to host a giveaway to celebrate!
Till then....

Yes, that would be both deer AND ducks on there! |

Summer's here!
Or as we in Arizona refer to as, "Hell on Earth"! For most people summer officially started 3 days ago...for us it was about two months ago. We have already gone 25 days straight with temps of 100 degrees or ABOVE! Mostly above, I am sure!
Anyhoo, we recently had a good friend of the family bring her daughter here to play in a soccer tournament. Seriously people...who has a soccer tournament in AZ this time of the year. It was about 110 degrees...yikes! Sadly her daughter caught a "bug" while she was here and was sick in bed for a couple of the days. On top of that...their team lost so I thought cookies were needed to cheer them up! (Not to mention the fact that it has been weeks since I have had an excuse to make them!) This is what I came up with:
Whatcha' think? Seriously, is there anything cuter than bikinis and flip flops? I think not!
Today I will building a new headboard for Kelli's bedroom at her new house. I should have a few "reveals" for next week, so be sure and stop back by! Till then...happy baking!
Have a great weekend!

A tale of two....
...headboards?! Yep, that is what I have for you today! Remember the estate sale headboard that I shared with you the other day? No? Well, let me refresh your memory:
I think I forgot to tell you that I only paid $20 for this little beauty. Using ASCP in both Old White and Coco, I painted her two-tone to go with the dressers that I showed you a while back (not quite ready for these reveals yet). You can also see that I added a couple of wooden plaques that I purchased at Restore a long time ago for .50 each. Pardon the ugly garage "backdrop" but here is what she looks like now:
Whatcha' think? I LOVE how these two colors compliment each other.
Now for my second headboard for today. It is not often when you can pull one over on the Goodwill. Remember when you could walk into one and actually find things were cheap? Not so much anymore! Sometimes I see things that are marked higher than they originally were brand new...crazy!
So, how excited was I when I spotted this cute little twin headboard back in the corner the other day. While you cannot really call it "vintage", it definitely has that look to it. It is old however...it is stamped "1969" on the back. For me not so old, but most of you probably weren't even around then. Anyhoo, here it is:
I can so see this all "girlied" up, can you? Perfect for the little princess in your life! I am thinking I will add another wood plaque on the large part to compliment the scrolls above. The best part:
SCORE....Terri 1...Goodwill 0
Whatcha' think? Should I go safe and do it white, or would go a little bolder? Would love your thoughts!
Thanks for stopping by...have a great weekend!

Change of plans!
Not a lot to share, but I thought you might want to see my latest estate sale find. First I will tell you that my original plan was to build an upholstered headboard for my second guest room. I had the fabric picked out and everything, but this little beauty changed all that.
It was a near disaster when I decided to open the garage door when it was still leaning against it. It was one of those moments when everything went to slow motion. I was half way to reaching it, but could not move fast enough to stop it from falling over. Not good! Let's just say there was some wood glue involved.
Whatcha' think? Can you see her potential? I am happy to say that I am almost done painting it...some things just can't wait! Not quite ready for the reveal, but think two tone!

Something looks a little "fishy"
I was busy early in the week making two different cookie orders for my "cyber" friend, Melanie. Sadly, I was so "wrapped up" in the packaging of the first order, I forgot to take any pictures...duh! She had ordered three dozen "doggy related" cookies to give to the two clinics that helped save her sweet Shankly's life! As always on shipped orders, I am stressed out hoping that they will arrive in one piece...or 36 pieces in this case!
Her second order was for her hubby's bestest co-worker friend who was retiring. He is a fisherman, so I gave it my best shot. I don't think I did too bad for only having ONE actual fish related cookie cutter! Yep, the fish...that was it. I had to create the rest with cookie cutters that I "repurposed"...check it out...can you figure out what other cutters I used?
I wish you could see the detailing on the fish better. I sprayed them with "Wilton's Food Spray Color Mist" to give them the iridescent look, but there is also a little more detail that did not show up in the picture very well. See any familiar cutters in there...see how many you can guess!
One more look:
Till next time...Happy Baking!

More Disney~
I have said it before and I will say it again...who doesn't love all things Disney?! Do you remember about a month ago when I had my cookie giveaway? Well, it was won by Audrey and she asked if I minded waiting until it was time for her daughter's graduation to do the cookies...no problem! She wanted a Mickey and Minnie theme...this is what I came up with:
I couldn't resist doing the Disney font for the writing! One can only hope that the P.O. handles them with love and that they arrive in the same condition as they left my house!
Congrats, Krystal~
And because one cannot waste the extra dough and icing...a little "yummy" couture:
I had to modify my "little black dress" cookie cutter because it was not quite summery enough...nothing a little "knife altering" couldn't take care of!
Whatcha' think?!
Have a great weekend!
