Sitting pretty!

Well, at least I think so!  You might remember a couple of weeks ago when I picked up this cute little chair at the Goodwill for $6.  It was very sturdy but had a few chips...kind of large chips, on the back and on the front.  Nothing a little wood putty couldn't cure.  Here is what the chair looked like when I picked it up:

The first thing I did was take it home and remove the seat cushion.  Recovering seat cushions is kind of my "thing"...it is quick (except for removing the old staples) and easy AND you get instant gratification after putting the fresh new fabric on!

Speaking of fabric, look at these fun home decor prints that I picked up from Amazon...the actual company that sells them is Fabric.com, so you can go directly to their site to pick of tons of choices.  This fabric is 54 inches wide and a nice thick twill...normally what you would pay about $20 a yard at big box stores!

Not sure if you can tell, but the chevron print is almost like a heavy linen...yummmm!  You are waiting for the price, right?  I'm going to tell you...one was $7.48 a yard and the other was $7.98...smokin' deal or what?!

This is what I found after removing the cushion from the chair and flipping it over:

Not only is it a Drexel...it is a very old Drexel.  I believe (and I could be wrong about this) that the 9 57 you see, is the date it was made.  Dang...this thing is OLD, almost as old as me!  No wonder it was so solid...you just can't beat the quality of old furniture.  And yes, that is the original fabric that I found underneath!

It is hard to tell from the original pic, but I did add more batting to "fluff" the seat up.  This is where I will tell you that I ALWAYS give my chairs the "smell" test!  If, after removing the fabric and actually giving the chair a good "sniff", I don't smell anything...I use the original stuffing.  I saturate spray it with Febreeze just for good measure, and let it dry completely. I know a lot of people would be hesitant to do this, but I just like the way that the original stuffing conforms to the wood!

I painted the chair with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint...Paris Grey and Pure White and finished it off with her clear wax.  How do you like me now?

Doesn't it look awesome on Kelli's new, beautiful floors and newly painted wall?!  If you can believe it, I never even held the ASCP up to her wall before painting the chair...the shade turned out perfect!

And just because I think you can never have too many pillows and even a cute chair deserves a little extra "bling", I whipped up this little accent pillow with fabric I purchased from Hob Lobs!

I have to say, I love how it turned out and fits Kelli's decor perfectly!

One more peek:

Be sure to check back in the next couple of days for the reveal of what we lovingly call "The Big Yellow Beast"!

Till then...

OH EM GEE!! Be still my heart!! I ADORE gray and yellow together - especially that bright sunshine yellow!! Kelli must have been THRILLED with the results - you so rocked this baby! And thanks for the fabric tip - I'll have to pass that on to Ashley, who is forever recovering her thrift store finds like you. Counting the days! Hopefully you'll be doing a whole house reveal here soon - I'm dying to see what it all looks like!! The floor looks amazing!
