My "go to" tools for decorating cookies!

In the short time that I have been decorating cookies I have come across a few tools that I could not live without. Please take into consideration that although I have "repurposed" a few of these items, they were all purchased specifically for decorating and have not been used for anything else!

Sorry about the picture size...just click on it to enlarge!

#1 I use various size and shape paint brushes for lots of things. The round flat top brush is great for applying shimmer dust for cheeks. The other one shown works well for adding shimmer dust to just about anything else and is great for getting excess sanding sugar off a cookie as well.

#2 The make up brush is great for getting excess sanding sugar off too, but on a much larger scale.

#3 I showed you the Squeeze bottles that I use in place of pastry bags...I could not live without these. They are not cheap, but worth every penny if you feel more comfortable using a bottle in place of the usual bags.

#4 When I set my supplies out to start decorating, I always wet a CLEAN cloth to keep in front of me when I am working. If I am starting a new bottle of icing, I usually squeeze into the rag for the first time to make sure the icing is coming out smoothly. It also comes in handy when using the "boo boo" stick (more on that in a minute).

#5 This brush is made by Wilton, I believe and is made for cleaning tips and possibly even bottles. Works great on the former, not so much for the latter.

#6 I am not really sure what this is supposed to be called, but Karen from Karens Cookies has dubbed it the boo boo stick and I have to say, I could not have said it better myself. It is probably one of my favorite go to tools. The pointed in saves me a lot of toothpicks and is great for getting into little spots, The "paddle" side works well for scraping runaway icing that tends to run down the side of the cookie. The best .69 you can spend...buy two since they are so cheap!

#7 This is just your plain, run of the mill baby bottle brush. I picked mine up at the Dollar Tree and this is one time when I think that "cheap" is definitely better. I don't think that the bristles are quite as stiff as one that you might buy with a name brand and it is perfect for fitting into the 2 oz. coupler squeeze bottles. The small end always works well for cleaning tips and the bottle caps.

#8 Honestly, I don't use the edible writers A LOT, but they do come in very handy for quick lettering, or teeny tiny detail. I use them to put eyes on my ladybugs...another handy "go to" tool. Mine are the Americolor Brand but Michaels and Joanns carry the(Wilton I believe).

So there you have it...my cookie decorating arsenal! I hopes this helps to make your decorating a little easier and a lot more fun!

Happy Baking~

There's a skinny girl who lives inside of me that's screaming to get out...I can usually shut her up with cookies!
