It's almost Hoooooo-loween!

And what better way to get ready than some cute little owls.  This is one of my latest cutters that I purchased from Klickitat Street.  Not only is Sarah a talented cookie decorator, she has recently started making her own cutters.  I couldn't resist (duh!) and I had to purchase all four of her first ones.  I mean, who doesn't need more cutters, right?!

I do have other owl cutters, but I love this one because it is the perfect size.  I couldn't wait to use it, so I decided on some little Halloween owls.  This is what I came up with:

I see myself finding excuses to use this little cutter a lot...love it!

I also can't wait to try the other designs that I got...the little gnomes are adorable and of course the toadstool was a must as well...never know when you will need some of those as well!

I was even bored enough last week to whip up some "minis".  Now, I will be the first to admit that typically minis are not not. my. thing.  Period.  They are super cute, but they seem to be almost as much work as a regular size cookie, but you have a lot less to show for your efforts.

These however, just might be an exception!

I had purchased some clear, plastic containers from Pick Your Plum.  I have to admit that their "daily deals" are a weakness of mine! You may or may not want to purchase some inexpensive chevron infinity scarves in every color, just because they were such a good deal...just sayin'!

Anyhoo, after I decorated the minis they looked like this:

I then bagged them up and heat sealed them:

Put them in one of the cute little 4 x 4 boxes and tied it with a simple tulle bow, added a little Halloween tag that I made using my Silhouette and VOILA!

Whatcha' think?  Wouldn't this be a fun way to get "boooooooo-d" for Halloween?!

Today I will be working on some "coloring book" cookies.  Taylor asked if I would make her some Halloween ones that they could decorate while staying at Nana's house.  How can you say no to that?!

It's "owl" about turning one!

Shauna contacted me about a month ago to order some cookies for her daughter, Brynnlee's (love that name), first birthday!  WHAT?!  Okay, where did that year go because it was just that long ago that I was making Shauna's baby shower cookies and it seems like last month!

She sent me a picture of the invite and knew that she wanted owls, but not sure what to go with.  I suggested something simple like circles with the number "1" and ovals with her name...those darn owls were so cute, I thought they should be the main attraction!  Here is a what the owl looked like on the invitation:

Stinkin' cute, huh?  This is what I came up with:

Whatcha' think...kind of cute?  They were so much fun to do...I don't know what it is about owls, but they are a real "hoot" to make!

They were individually packaged for favors.  I added the ribbon but Shauna was attaching a small tag...she was kind enough to send me this picture when they were all done:

How cute is that tag?  Love!  Thanks so much, Shauna...hope Brynnlee had a wonderful first birthday!!

Finding inspiration...

...it's all over the www, and you don't have to search hard to find it! I have told you many times of my Pinterest obsession. I have tried a project or two, and more than one recipe...there have been "hits" and there have been definite "MISSES"! At Christmas I tried a few "bake, don't deep fry" recipes...hence the misses I am speaking of! I'm sorry, but there are some things that are meant to ooze both fat and calories. Just sayin'!

Okay, so back to the reason behind the post title.  I recently found these cute little owls on Pinterest the other day:

I thought they were so stinkin' cute, I decide to create my own version, which of course turned out nothing like these.  It didn't matter since I wasn't intending to "copy" them anyway, I was just looking for something to create that was a little different.  I have no idea what cutter was used, and I don't happen to have anything quite like it so I used what I had.  I had seen somewhere (also on the web) that someone had used an upside down tulip to make an owl, so that is what I did.  I cut off the middle "hump" and voila, an owl was born!  Just for fun I made some cute little frogs (also Internet inspired) to go with...made using a six-petal flower. 

 

Whatch'a think?  Kind of cute, huh?  We sometimes get stuck in a rut...if you are trying something new or just doing the same thing but want to try a "new" version, don't be afraid to look around a bit for new ideas, then make it your own!  To me, it would be the highest form of flattery if someone took one of my ideas for inspiration!

I had no reason to make these cookies, actually I was just plain bored and since I hadn't made any since before Christmas (gasp!)  I was sort of having "cookie creating" withdrawals!  A small box went out to one unsuspecting follower and the rest will go to my grandkids!
