Project "fail" reveal!
I am sure that a lot of you have been waiting for my "big" reveal on the project that went somewhat "south"! And I am sure at first glance you won't see it, because it DID turn out stinkin' cute, if I do say so myself!
Anyhoo, quite a while back I showed you this little chest of drawers:
I am sure that I told you at the time that it was perfect for a project that I had in mind. And it was...except for the size, which at the same time, I thought was also "perfect". Turns out...not so much!
You see, it was supposed to be a "wardrobe", of sorts, to hold Taylor's (and soon to be, little Miss Tatum's) dress up clothes. It was one of those projects that just "worked"...every step ran smoothly. It came together just as I had it planned in my head (not always the case!).
Okay...so I am sure you are dying to see what I am talking about. Here is what it looks like now.
As you can see, I removed the top three drawers and all the hardware that held them. I had left over beadboard from the little "kitchen" project, so I lined the entire inside with that. I used the same color paint as I did on the little chest I painted a while back.
The writing on the drawer was done with a template I made with my Silhouette. I used the negative as a stencil and painted with another shade of the pink. The crown is one that I picked up at HL and repainted it in the colors I needed...added some bling and Voila! I wanted something more fun than the original wooden knobs so I picked these up on Ebay. Sorry, not a good picture but one is a magic carpet and the other is a castle.
The rod is just a big dowel and I hung it using some square door trim thingy's (they have a name, but I can never remember it).
So the "fail" is not the project itself, but the finished size. I don't know why I was thinking this would be big enough to hold the clothes themselves. It is not near tall enough...even if the bottom drawer was removed, it would not work. This is where I sort of "dropped the ball"...the plan was to put a little rack on one side (outside of chest) to hold necklaces, etc. and a mirror on the other side.
Melissa has decided it is just too cute to abandon so she is taking it to use for the princess' accessories and not the clothes...which makes me feel a little better!
BTW...I believe this idea originally came from Pinterest, but I can't for the life of me find the one that I saw...apparently I forgot to "pin" it, so I had to create my own version.
One more peek:
Sooooo, whatch'a think?
Stay tuned for some cookie cuteness in the next few days!

If this is a fail, then I'm Jennifer Lopez! LOL Seriously, this is AMAZEBALLS!! I'm so glad that Melissa decided to hang on to it - Taylor will have a blast with this, and so will baby Tatum when she gets bigger!! I say SUCCESS!!
